Process

Books:

This will generally depend on whether or not you already have a publisher interested in publishing your book or if you require help getting your idea for a book to the stage at which a publisher is likely to commission it. Alternatively you may have opted to self-publish your book.

If you don't have a publishing deal, you'll need a book proposal to include a synopsis and sample chapter. Conversely, if you DO already have a publisher interested in publishing your book you may not require any sample material. In any case, we would have an initial chat to discuss the book, your objectives, topics, potential chapter headings, target audiences, marketing potential, and why it'll stand out from others. Based on this, I will prepare a fee estimate and sign a confidentiality contract so you can be assured of total confidentiality.

Once I receive go ahead on a project I can then make a start on researching the book, conducting interviews (with you and other experts) and writing the first chapter. Most publishers like to see a sample chapter before they agree to publish whereas, if you already have interest from a publisher or are self-publishing your book, you are likely only to need a basic synopsis.

Once everyone (a publisher, you, and I) has committed to the book, I can then focus on writing the manuscript.

Interviews are necessary, not only to gather your insight and experience on the book topics, but also to enable me to get a sense of your voice and craft a book that reads as if you have written it yourself.

I will send each chapter to you on completion, enabling you to make comments and/or suggest amendments. As soon as we are happy with a chapter I'd send it to the publisher so they can make a start on editing and typesetting.

As well as sparing some time to be interviewed and read through each chapter as I complete them, you'll need to write your own 'Acknowledgements' page and a 'Dedication'.

The entire process, from our first chat to book completion will take anywhere between five and eight months. The publishers will then take a few months to publish the book and make it available to buy.

I will then respond with a brief proposal and proposed fee which will generally be based on word length.
